Creative Music Therapy Sessions

Creative Music Therapy sessions use both structured and improvised music-making to foster emotional expression, communication, and cognitive rehabilitation. Sessions are often structured with a, check-in, active intervention, and relaxation to build agency and leave space to express unprocessed emotions.

Improvisation - clients play instruments freely (without needing musical skills or training), or sing along with a therapist to explore their creative ideas to build agency and express emotions.

Group Music Making & Drumming – group drumming or instrumental play is encouraged to foster social connection, focus and self-awareness within group dynamics.

Songwriting & Lyric Analysis – therapists support clients to write original songs or analyse existing lyrics to process past trauma, present feelings, and reframe negative experiences.

Receptive Music Listening (Supportive Music & Imagery) – a therapist can play pre-recorded music for clients to reduce their stress or use the music & imagery therapeutic techniques to help clients process feelings, enhance memories and regulate emotions.

Movement to Music - incorporating improvised or structured dance movement to promote physical expression and somatic engagement.

Musical Storytelling and Games - using interactive songs, or well-known stories with musical illustrations to engage children, families and adults with their favourite stories and memories.

Creative Herts Music Therapy Sessions

Sessions for Children

The one-to-one and group therapy sessions with children are designed to meet unique needs of each child, whether they it's mental health support or working with their neurodiversity or learning difficulties. Through the creative use of instruments, singing, musical play, movement and singing songs, I establish a musical connection with each child on their own communicative terms, which opens up opportunities to create a safe space for free creative exploration, bulding confidence and fostering children's healthy development. I also work with parents and teachers (if required) to address EHCP goals identified by schools, at the same time preseving playful and creative nature of my interventions. I also offer bespoke parent & child, and family sessions, where vital connections can transform and thrive.

Sessions for Adults

The one-to-one and group therapy sessions for adults are focused around challenges related to mental health, wellbeing and forming social connections with self and others. Individual sessions hold safe, confidential space for clients to explore, communicate, and release complex or suppressed emotions (often related to emotional trauma) or revive positive past memories through creative use of instruments, singing, and improvisation. The open group community music therapy sessions are the space to meet with local people and experience the healing power of finding social and musical connection in a supportive setting. All sessions are beneficial for individuals looking to develop their expression, focus, creativity and improvisation skills within tailored therapeutic formats and a safe, confidential social environment. The instruments and equipment are provided by the Creative Herts MT, but the use of own instruments and resources is also encouraged.

Cognitive and Physical Challenges

My bespoke therapeutic interventions  are tailored to address specific cognitive and physical challenges experienced by people of all ages, which are related to their medical diagnoses such as dementia, Parkinsons, neurologic conditions, cancer, learning difficulties, cognitive delay, brain injury, physical disabilities, etc. and can be applied in home settings, online, day care facilities, hospitals, hospices, and  community centres, depending on clients' life circumstances. I work musically with the unique range of abilities clients still presently have, regardless of their diagnoses. By applying bespoke combination of session formats and techniques I aim to make our interactions as mutual and close to the clients' present needs and preferences as possible. The receptive enjoyment of music often ignites creative motivation and active contributions from clients that go beyond the limitations of their conditions.
